Epic Games has shared some new updates on the mobile version of Fortnite, and indicated that it will debut for Android sometime this summer.

Fortnite has continued its global dominance by taking over PC, consoles, and mobile. While Android users have had to look over at iOS users' screens in jealously, Epic Games has now provided an update that the Android version of the hit mobile title appears to be on the horizon.
Developer Epic Games updates for Fortnite concerning mobile in a new blog post, and the studio detailed that the game's Android release is currently being targeted for a summer release window, with more specific release date coming closer to launch.
In addition to the new details regarding an Android release for the game, Epic also described some of the planned updates coming to the game's mobile iteration across both iOS (which is available now) and Android down the line.
A few of those updates include the recent implementation of a customizable HUD, which is now available on the iOS version and allows users to completely remap and orient the game's display elements where they like on-screen.
Likewise, Epic also detailed that built-in Voice Chat is another feature that the studio is working to implement on mobile, which is also aimed to work in a cross-platform capacity between the game's mobile, console, and PC iterations. Epic stated that the Voice Chat feature will also include the ability to mute one or all players, or to go back to an open microphone among everyone.
In addition to these features, Epic is also continuing to tweak the game's performance and controls on mobile, and are also looking into ways of decreasing the mobile game's large installation file size, and the size of the game's patches and updates, including an option to download new content in the background. Stat tracking is also a feature that Epic Games is planning to implement this summer alongside the Android release.
Fortnite is available now on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and iOS, and is targeting a release this summer for Android.

It might seem strange that Tencent Games, which is also in charge of PUBG Mobile, would be the folks behind Fortnite on Android. Keep in mind that Tencent Holdings part-owns PUBG Corp. and Epic Games, so it makes sense for Tencent Games to be in charge of the two studios' mobile battle royale ports.
Then again, Epic Games is in charge of Fortnite's iOS port. Perhaps Epic Games did not want to stretch out its resources too much.
Either way, we will learn more on July 24.

Battle royale addicts with Android devices have been holding out for a set release date for Epic Games' insanely popular title hit iOS devices just over two months ago. In an official developer update earlier today, the developer/publisher confirmed that development is still underway and that it is 'targeting this summer for the release.'

Epic said back in March that the online shooter would arrive on the Play Store 'in a few months.' The new release window given today suggests we'll see Fortnite come to Android phones and tablets between late June and early September.
While it's disappointing to hear that there's still at least another month to wait, it seems like the extra time will be put to good use.

Epic is looking to improve the experience on mobile, no doubt to ensure that it can fully compete with the platform's other massively popular battle royale game, PUBG Mobile. In the developer update (via The Verge), titled the 'State of Mobile', Epic announced a number of tweaks to the mobile version of Fortnite that should be available to Android users upon release.
These include a customizable HUD (pictured below), native voice chat, stat-tracking, as well as gameplay and performance optimizations and overall stability improvements.
